Coach support & development

Kia Hākinakina Wairarapa fully supports the Nuku Ora drive for a regional Coach Developer approach across the Wairarapa, providing aligned education for all and integrating regional organisations and expertise where appropriate. In the South Wairarapa we are giving clubs tasters of this approach, led by consultant Simon Roseingrave and his Just A Game model, based on the modern Game Based approach to learning and activity.

What's in Just A Game?

A full engagement, practical approach

Just A Game is delivered as a full engagement, practical approach to Game Based Learning across sports codes and physical activity.

A practical exploration of the WHY of Game Based Learning

  • It's OK to be different: movement variability and challenging the technical norm
  • Participant motivation: everyone involved, enhancing exploration, self-discovery and self-achievement, mimic the game
  • Build it up & break it down
  • Coaches as experts: making it easier at all levels
  • Coach / participant connections: let's have a conversation, and language
  • Back-yard and peer to peer learning
  • Encourage the challenge of a challenge

The socially connected and aware participant

Personal & social development through the integrated use of social models interwoven into sport:

  • Hellison's Values Based Approach: Teaching Personal and Social Competence
  • The pillars of Te Whare Tapa Whā: whanaungatanga and more
  • Creating safe, non-judgemental environments
